Having seen the Mumbai Indians complete a striking comeback against Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday, one would not have expected a more bizarre finish the very next day!

Royal Challengers Bangalore was down and out for most of the Sunrisers' chase but a combined harakiri from the middle-order meant that Virat Kohli's frown soon carved to the usual aggressive self.  With 17 overs of proper cricket led by captain David Warner's fifty, none would have predicted a six-run loss for the Sunrisers.

Kohli's punt to give the ball to Shahbaz Ahmed right after the strategic timeout turned the match altogether on its head. The experienced heads of Jonny Bairstow and Manish Pandey floundered and was soon followed by the exuberant Abdul Samad in one over! With the pitch getting difficult to adjust to, the pacers Mohammed Siraj and Harshal Patel kept the heat on the lower-order as Hyderabad soon hit rock-bottom.

Shahbaz Ahmed  - It was a tough situation (bowling the 17th over), but I am happy that the captain trusted my ability. There was a bit of help from the surface and I exploited it. I was confident about bowling another over. Bairstow's catch was important (considering the situation), and I was happy that I got to hold another chance. Harshal Patel:  My hands were sweaty but no excuses for bowling no-balls. It's a basic mistake and I will try not to repeat it. I have been told that I will be bowling the pressure overs and I'm really happy that captain has that faith in me. All the games here have such a trend that you can only score when the ball is hard and it gets really difficult when the ball gets softer. Looking at all the games that happened here, it's always important to stay in the game and never give up. David Warner:  A very bitter pill to swallow. Our bowlers were fantastic to restrict them. Maxwell batted well and set the platform. We needed two set batsmen at the end, but we failed to do that. We needed to build a partnership and play proper cricket shots. W e played cross batted shots, and that's not the way to play here. We know how to approach in the upcoming games. We have another three games here and I think the wickets are going to get better. The team batting second (at Chepauk) should have won all the four games. This is exactly what happened last night.

SRH 143/9 after 20 overs: RCB pulls off one epic heist! Pips Sunrisers by six runs in an absolutely bizarre last 20 minutes. Harshal Patel probably gave Kohli a scare with the no-ball bumper that Rashid sent to the fine leg fence. However, Patel brings in the yorker at the right time as Rashid runs him out in an attempted double of it. Shahbaz Nadeem follows him back first ball as another catch goes up within the circle. RCB has completed a turnaround like no other to beat Hyderabad by six runs.

SRH 134/7 after 19 overs: Siraj to Holder. OUT! Holder holes out to long-off! Is that the game right there, if it weren't sealed already? Rashid manages a couple of twos but that is not enough for Warner's men from here on.  Hyderabad needs 16 off the final over now!

SRH 123/6 after 18 overs: There goes another as Shankar holes out to Kohli at deep mid-wicket! How the tables have turned in the matter of five minutes. Harshal pushes inthe slower off-cutter on the good length and Shankar went for the heave to the leg-side. SRH 116/5 after 17 overs: SHAHBAZ AHMED HAS THREE IN ONE OVER!! What a turnaround has this been post the timeout. If you think MI's resurgence was everything, this game has turned around in the span of three balls in one over. Bairstow, Pandey have gifted their wicket two slogs that turns straight up. Abdul Samad who comes in later in the over does no different as he meets a similar fate. Have the batsmen been conjured or what? Credit to Shahbaz for tempting the batsmen into the wild slog. SRH 115/2 after 16 overs: There's some high-octane running between the wickets on display. Bairstow and Pandey have restricted themselves from the big shots against Chahal and has doubled up their efforts in their running. Whew, they even managed to sneak in a three to douse Kohli's hopes every now and then.

SRH 108/2 after 15 overs: Ahmed gets some turn off the deck.Bairstow and Pandey is content to take it slow and rotates strike with some fine running between the wickets.

SRH 102/2 after 14 overs: Jamieston to Warner. OUT! Well, well, Warner gives it away at perhaps the wrong moment. Jamieson slashes the pace on the wider, full delivery and Warner fails to ace the timing to send the ball into the stands. A simple catch for Christian at long-on. Jamieson keeps the ball climbing from the hard lengths but the new man Bairstow pulls one behind square for a boundary off the last ball of the over.  David Warner c Christian b Jamieson 54 (37b 7x4 1x6)

SRH 96/1 after 13 overs: Warner brings up yet another IPL fifty with a brisk double that needs him to stretch full length to beat AB de Villiers to the stumps. The skipper has led the charge from the front and the game is well at SRH's feet, unless things go down south from here for Warner and Co.

SRH 89/1 after 12 overs: Harshal is a tough nut to crack. Harshal mixes up his length and pace to block Pandey for four successive deliveries. A couple of singles follow but Patel is giving it his all to keep the batsmen under the pump.

SRH 87/1 after 11 overs: Delightful touch from Warner! Two deliveries from Chahal on the same line have been met with stark reactions from the Aussie. Chahal flights one into the middle-stump and Warner unleashes a cracking reverse-sweep to the boundary. Chahal maintains similar lines and Warner aces a fine sweep behind square leg. This is some high-class knock from the skipper as Sunrisers begins to crack the chase easily.

SRH 77/1 after 10 overs: Harshal Patel nearly gets Warner first ball even as the stroke was as powerful as any that was hit this evening. A fuller delivery from Harshal and Warner clears his front leg and creams it just inches out from Chahal at mid-on before racing the boundary. Patel keeps it tight through the rest of the over but the SRH batsmen have got enough on board.

SRH 70/1 after 9 overs: Massive drift and turn for Chahal. Pandey is stunned by a ripping delivery that turns away from middle and leg, opening him up completely. The leggie the darts in a googly but Pandey's nimble feet puts the ball away with a strong forward movement towards it.

SRH 65/1 after 8 overs: Some turn for Sundar on return and seemed to have kept Pandey down but not for long. Pandey broke the tone with a cracking slog over long-on. A fuller delivery right in his arc and he was ready to pounce on it as the RCB bowlers continue to bowl one loose delivery every over.

SRH 57/1 after 7 overs: A fine start for Chahal as he induces the edge off Pandey first-up. There's no slip and Chahal has no instant reward for the taking as the ball trickles down to the third man boundary.

SRH 50/1 after 6 overs: This is an inexplicable move from the captain. Kohli brings in Siraj from the other end and the pacer's rhythm has taken a hit. Warner cuts a wide delivery past point and then clears his front foot and zips one to the deep mid-wicket boundary. Warner brings up the 50 for SRH within the Powerplay and this has been a strong start for his side despite Saha's early downfall.

SRH 38/1 after 5 overs: Pandey pulls Sundar to the midwicket boundary for a four and ensures the runs are not drying up even in a rather tight over. Kohli has brought in the offie to trouble Warner but Pandey has ensured to cover his skipper by keeping the runs ticking.

SRH 32/1 after 4 overs: Warner and Pandey give Jamieson a pounding. Pandey begins the onslaught with a powerful whip through the line over cow corner. Warner is quick to rake in the runs off some poor bowling from Jamieson as well.  A powerful extra cover drive is complemented by a swish and flick six over fine leg.

 

SRH 15/1 after 3 overs: Siraj to Saha. OUT! Siraj finally gets his man!  Hits the deck hard and Saha attempts the cut that flies straight to Maxwell at point. SRH 13/0 after 2 overs: Jamieson begins by tucking Warner with the hard, full length. He misses one by a fraction short and Warner unleashes a cracking pull through midwicket to the boundary.

SRH 4/0 after 1 over: What a start for Mohammed Siraj! There's the first maiden over of the season! Siraj gets the ball to move away from Saha of the initial deliveries before he hits the deck hard and pumps it to Saha. Saha nearly jags one back to the stumps before a brute of a seaming-in delivery passes through his defence and even past de Villiers behind the wickets to the boundary.

We are back for the chase!  Warner and Saha walks out to the middle as Mohammed Siraj takes the new ball for Hyderabad.

Another below-par performance for the RCB batsmen on a sluggish track. However, the slowness of the pitch may eventually come to their defence. The batsmen had their troubles against the well-prepared SRH outfit - the bowlers having used their slower-cutters to good use post the first half. With Devdutt Padikkal and makeshift no. 3 Shahbaz Ahmed falling early, skipper Kohli and Glenn Maxwell had a recovery task ahead of them. The duo rotated the strike and exploded towards the 10th over. However, Warner's men came back quickly, with Jason Holder removing Kohli and the high-billed match-up of Rashid Khan and de Villiers ending in the leggie's favour.

Maxwell's lone battle was the only positive for RCB, who might just have enough runs on board to make this an even contest.

RCB 149/8 after 20 overs: Maxwell provides RCB with a decent finish, scoring his first IPL fifty in five years! Holder began well by removing Jamieson with a slower one. Jamieson attempted the slog over long-on, but the lack of timing meant the ball landed straight into Pandey's hands, and he was not dropping any tonight. Maxwell took on the mantle of scoring and smashed the full-toss from Holder over the mid-wicket stands for a massive six. RCB 136/6 after 19 overs: The Big Show shifts gears in trademark style. Natarajan's good length delivery outside the off-stump is reverse scooped to the boundary with Maxwell's malleable wrists coming into the act. Natarajan then hits the perfect yorker that nearly rocks the stumps but Maxwell climbs back on top with another boundary through mid-wicket as the attempted yorker goes wrong once again.

RCB 124/6 after 18 overs: Jamieson floors Bhuvneshwar! A flurry of boundaries adorn the fences as Bhuvneshwar misses the yorker. Jamieson creams one through extra cover and another beside Bhuvneshwar down the ground. Maxwell gets into the act as Bhuvi's yorker passes on as a low full-toss. Maxwell shimmies across and thumps it to the mid-wicket fence.

RCB 110/6 after 17 overs: Natarajan to Christian. OUT! A faint nick and the umpire raises the finger! Christian has a long look at the decision and goes for the review. The replays show a clear spike and the veteran Aussie has to walk back to the dugout. Christian went for the wider delivery from Natarajan but was never gaining to reach it. RCB 106/5 after 16 overs: Rashid Khan to Sundar. OUT! In the air and gone! A sensational dive from Manish Pandey sends Sundar back for 8. The fuller delivery drifting away has done the trick as Sundar could not resist a slog down the ground. Sundar fails to muscle the ball and a manic Manish Pandey completes a superb catch running in from long-off. Washington Sundar c Pandey b Rashid Khan 8 (11b 1x4)

RCB 103/4 after 15 overs: Bhuvneshwar returns with a fine over. Sundar presents him a couple of chances as a attempted lofted cover drive nearly slips into Holder's hands. Bhuvneshwar then follows a tight line before bowling a wide delivery to Sundar who attempts a ramp shot off it. The ball lobs to the left of Saha who dives but fails to hold on to it and will well go down as a dropped chance .

RCB 96/4 after 14 overs: Rashid Khan to AB de Villiers. OUT! THE BIG MAN gone!  The shorter leg-break moves into de Villiers slower than expected and the maverick batsman's attempt to hit over covers is foiled.  92/3 after 13 overs: Holder to Kohli. OUT! An excellent diving catch from Vijay Shankar!  An excellent deceptive off-cutter from Holder has flummoxed Kohli altogether. Kohli attempts to flick the slower one that climbs onto him and the ball lobs straight up into the night sky. Vijay Shankar storms in from the fine leg boundary and completes a forward diving catch to send the RCB skipper on his way.  Virat Kohli c Shankar b Holder 33 (29b 4x4)

RCB 91/2 after 12 overs: Natarajan foxes Kohli with a slew of deceptive off-cutters. Kohli steps down in a bid to target the leg-side fence but this has been excellent bowling on return from the left-armer.

RCB 85/2 after 11 overs: Maxwell and Kohli break the shackles with a 22-run over! Nadeem is literally hit left, right and centre as Maxwell gets into the act first. Maxi sends the slow, length delivery over the mid-wicket fence with disdain and follows up with a stifling stroke through the covers. Shoddy stuff from Nadeem as he sends in another short ball that is pummeled by Maxwell over midwicket. Kohli follows suit with a step-down drive over the left-armer to put RCB back in charge here.

RCB 63/2 after 10 overs: Rashid darts through a quick over as Maxwell tries to shuffle from the on-side towards the middle stump to counter the leggie. Kohli and Maxwell are content to see of the threat with a couple of singles.

RCB 58/2 after 9 overs: Maxwell is feeling the heat already. Nadeem has wound him down with a couple of probing deliveries. Nadeem gets the drift away from Maxwell once again as he rocks back in the crease in an attempt for a cut. Maxwell misses it altogether and the ball nearly clips the stumps. Lucky escape for Maxwell there. His focus is clearly broken as a pre-meditated reverse-sweep just falls to Warner at covers next ball. A wicket in the offing?

RCB 55/2 after 8 overs: Rashid comes in and straightaway troubles Maxwell with a couple of straighter ones that has caught the Aussie by surprise. Maxwell, however, gets off the mark with a lofted cover drive to the boundary as Rashid makes a rare early slip-up.

RCB 36/1 after 5 overs: Nadeem instantly operates from around the wicket to the left-handed Shahbaz and pays the price. A loopy delivery onto the feet is ramped over the fine leg boundary for a brilliant six and Shahbaz is showing some early signs of his repertoire as a batsman.

RCB 26/1 after 4 overs: Holder's deft change of pace has Kohli struggling to get his timing right. New man Shahbaz Ahmed has a wild slog over the cover fielder in a bid to break Holder's rhythm but is lucky to not have gifted his wicket there.

RCB 20/1 after 3 overs: Bhuvneshwar to Padikkal. OUT! Straight to short mid-wicket! Bhuvneshwar sends a subtle change of pace as Padikkal goes for the rough heave to the leg-side. There was no room available for him to nail that shot as Nadeem completes a clean catch. So the hard-hitting Rajat Patidar is benched after one game as Kohli opts for the extra bowling option in Shahbaz Ahmed, who will also slot himself at No.3 in the batting order. The spot vacated by the captain is up for some cropping and changing early on in the tournament.

Meanwhile, SRH has opted to bring in Jason Holder while Sandeep Sharma - Kohli's IPL nemesis misses out tonight.

Kohli : It does look a bit of damp and we would've gotten into the game with the ball. You need to pick up wickets in the middle overs in Chennai. We had a good game against Mumbai, but not the best game. We just operated 75%, myself should've batted longer...with the ball, we were brilliant. As a batting unit, we need to set sights on a decent total. One change: Padikkal in for Patidar . Devdutt will open with me and Shahbaz [Ahmed] at No.3 Warner : Don't think the conditions will change a lot, we'll have to play with a positive mindset. Our fielding wasn't as good as we expected last game, there was a lack of energy.  Nadeem comes in for Sandeep Sharma and Jason Holder for Mohammad Nabi .

PITCH REPORT: Danny Morrison suggests that conditions are "beautiful" for the evening. With the lack of swing evident over the last four matches at Chepauk, the focus swiftly shifts to the spinners. Murali Kartik adds on that the pitch is the driest of the four tracks that were on show.The track for tonight was the one that was used for India's second Test against England. And this evidently means, the captain who wins the Toss would want to bat first on this pitch.

Predicted XIs

With the Sunrisers failing to strike balance with its overseas core, Warner and the management will have a tough task in making the most of their available structure. The Indian pace trio of Bhuvneshwar, Sandeep and Natarajan went off radar in the first match and that could lead SRH in bringing in Jason Holder into the mix. Holder's exclusion would be at the expense of Mohammed Nabi while Sandeep Sharma may be replaced by a spinner, preferably Shahbaz Nadeem.

RCB might welcome opener Devdutt Padikkal back into the set-up after having missed out on the first match right after his recovery from COVID-19. All-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed might make way for the teenager while the hard-hitting Rajat Patidar could get a longer run in the top-order.

After a positive start to its 14th edition with a clinical win over the defending champion Mumbai Indians on Friday, Virat Kohli and Co. have ensured that the initiation was with minimal blips this time around.

With a nearly settled XI taking the field to break down Mumbai in the season opener, skipper Kohli would certainly be a relieved man as his side aims to take the early lead in the tournament.

The Sunrisers, however, has failed to strive the balance between its overseas players and the middle-order continues to be a chink in its armour. However, Hyderabad would be more than keen to make a swift turnaround with its bowlers relishing the edge over RCB's batsmen in recent head-to-head fixtures.
