Kieron Pollard in action for MI.

Hello and welcome to Sportstar's live coverage of the IPL 2022 match between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals.

A great all-round performance from RR as they defend 193. MI was cruising at one point, with Ishan and Tilak going great guns. Both struck fifties but their dismissals arrested MI's momentum. Chahal and Ashwin then tightened the noose and were complemented by Boult and Prasidh. In the end, it was too steep a mountain to climb, even for Kieron Pollard. RR go top of the table with four points and a NRR of 2.100. Mumbai remain seventh.  That would be all from our side. Thanks.

In the absence of Suryakumar Yadav, he has taken the responsibility with effortless ease. Varma moves to 49 with a single. Meanwhile, Ishan falls for a 43-ball 54; Navdeep Saini with a sharp catch but he seems to have hurt himself in the process. Took a blow to his head/neck while completing the catch. MI 50/2 in 6 overs: Prasidh back for another crack. Ishan guides it to third man for four. Prasidh nearly has his second as the ball pops up to mid-off and falls just short of a diving Saini. 5 off the over.

Big over already. But some respite for Saini, as Anmolpreet holes out for five.

"Hard to tell whether it's a good score as there's a short boundary on one-side," Buttler, the orange cap holder, says.

"They came back strong. Bumrah one of the best in the world, Mills got good skills too. Always felt we were going to lift off but never quite got away from them," he says.

RR 193/8 in 20 overs: Mills to bowl the final over. A yorker to start the over. Dug out for a single. Navdeep Saini, the new batter, lofts the ball clumsily to deep extra cover. There's no leverage on that, so falls safe. Two runs taken. Slower delivery, and Saini is out! He attempts a big hit, but is deceived by the slower ball, gets a top edge and Ishan Kishan takes a good catch.

Trent Boult  picks a single. Parag slaps a length delivery down the ground for four runs! And then he's out: slaps the ball to long-on where Tim David takes the catch.

Riyan Paragc Tim David b Tymal Mills 5(4b, 1x4)

Navdeep Saini c Ishan Kishan b Tymal Mills 2 (2b)

RR 185 for 6 in 19 overs: Bumrah to bowl his third. Fired in full, huge shout for lbw, not given. Rohit opts for a review. Will Buttler be out for 99? There's an inside edge so he survives, and a single had been taken so it's a century!

But Hetmyer has to depart instead, as he slogs a full delivery straight to Tilak Verma at deep midwicket. And an inswinging yorker to greet Riyan Patag first up - huge shout for lbw but not given. MI doesn't take the review. Oh and bowled! Buttler is out bowled for 100. It's a yorker on middle-stump, and Buttler can't keep it out.

R. Ashwin steers the ball to backward point and decides to come back for two runs but is run out!

R. Ashwin run out (Tilak Varma) 1 (1b)

Jos Buttler b Bumrah 100 (68b, 11x4, 5x6)

Shimron Hetmyer c Tilak Varma b Bumrah 35 (14b, 3x4, 3x6)

RR 182/3 in 18 overs: The blitzkrieg continues! Length ball from Tymall Mills, slogged to midwicket for six by Hetmyer. Oh and given out! Hetmyer attempts a scoop shot, but misses and the ball hits his pads instead. A single cannot be picked up as the wicketkeeper gets hold of the ball quickly.

Review taken! Impact is outside the off-stump, and Hetmyer survives. Short and wide, cut away to point for four runs! Nicely guided through the gap. Brings up the 50 partnership. Single to long-off. Brings Buttler on strike, who needs just two more to get to his 100.

Mills bowls a yorker-length delivery outside off-stump, and it's a dot ball. Buttler is annoyed that it's not been given a wide. Short of a length, slapped awkwardly to long-off for a single. 99.

Tilak Verma takes the catch to dismiss Sanju Samson.

RR 170/3 in 17 overs: Pollard bowling his final over. Short, first up, to Hetmyer, who pulls to fine leg for six runs! Six more - was sitting up to be hit as it was short and the ball had no pace on it. Deposited to cow corner. Four more! Full toss this time, slogged to long-on for four! And then helped on its way for four more! It's a full delivery on leg-stump.

Then an even slower delivery yards outside the off-stump - wide. And four more! On leg-stump again, hits the thigh pad and evades the wicketkeeper en route to the boundary. Relief, at long last - hit on long-on for a single.

Full toss, outside off-stump, hit away to backward point for four runs! Buttler moves to 87.

RR 123/2 in 13 overs: Pollard comes on to bowl his second over. Buttler cuts to point for a single. Batters may not find it easy to generate big hits with no pace on the ball. But when there are freebies, they can be pounced upon - Pollard plays the upper cut to a bouncer and collects a boundary. Beats the bat outside the off-stump, then two singles.

RR 115/2 in 12 overs: Sams is back to bowl his third over. Just one run from three good deliveries and then normalcy resumes. Sams bowls full, on off-stump - it's a slower ball - and Samson smashes the ball to long-off for six more! Two more dots balls to finish the over - a yorker and a bouncer. Seven from it.

RR 108/2 in 11 overs: Ashwin to continue. Wide again, down the leg side. Then a full delivery on middle-stump, Buttler sweeps to deep square leg for a single. Samson has six more! Gets an overpitched delivery and dispatches it to the stands behind long-off. Lovely, languid flow of the bat.

Samson punches off the back-foot to long-off for a single. Wide down the leg side again. Ishan Kishan is excited as he thinks there's an edge, but no one else is interested. A good length delivery, carved away past deep extra cover for six! That brings up the 50 partnership.

Short ball, Buttler brings out his reverse-sweep and gets a boundary behind short third man. There's a misfield by that fielder, who apologises to his team-mates. Single to finish off.

RR 87/2 in 10 overs: Mills continues. Starts off with a full delivery outside off; it's driven to deep extra cover for a single. Slower ball on leg-stump - it's a full toss - flicked to long leg for two runs. Short and wide, cut by Buttler - straight to the fielder along the ground. No run.

Short ball, pulled away fiercely by Buttler square leg for four runs! Moves into his 60s. Pushes the ball to cover to pick up a single. Samson tees off, for six! Goes deep in his crease, gets a length ball - it's a slower ball - and !nicely slogs it away to cow corner for six runs!

RR 73/2 in 9 overs: Ashwin back into the attack, and he starts off with a wide down the leg side. Buttler then works it to square leg for a single. Samson does the same. Single. Buttler plays it back to the bowler, then works the ball to the on-side for no run. Down the leg side, plays the paddle sweep, but the leg-slip fielder fields the ball, no run.

And a four to finish off. Poor end to the over from Ashwin; it's another one down the leg side. Buttler helps it on its way.

RR 66/2 in 8 overs: Sams back into the attack.

Buttler cuts the ball to deep point for a single. In the corridor, coming across from the angle from over the wicket, left alone. A similar delivery, Samson plays a late cut to third man for a single. Wider, to Buttler, who cuts and finds the boundary - just about, as the fielder dives to try to prevent it, but the ball still rolls back to the cushion. Buttler, then, plays a similar stroke and this time the fielder had no chance. Four more. That brings up the 50 for Buttler. Single to finish up.

RR 55/2 in 7 overs: Kieron Pollard comes on to bowl now.

Tucked to backward square leg for a single by Buttler. Sanju Samson, the new batter, defends a full delivery on middle stump. Short, wide, cut away fiercely through backward point for four runs. Nice way to get off the mark. Short of a length again, on off-stump, defended. Drives to cover and picks up a single.

Short and wide again, cut to deep point by Buttler for a single.

RR 48/2 in 6 overs: Last over of the Powerplay. Tymal Mills is brought in the attack. Defended from the crease by Buttler, then an excellent delivery that nearly produces a wicket! In the corridor, Buttler has a feel for the ball and does well not to edge it behind. Then defends a short of a length delivery again.

And then, brings out the ramp shot! But doesn't connect. It's on a good length again. Buttler finally gets a full delivery and he plays it to mid-on for a single. Last delivery: short, Padikkal attempts a pull but the ball comes on too quick for him. He gets a top edge and Rohit, at cover, takes a simple catch.

Devdutt Padikkal c Rohit b Tymall Mills 7 (7b, 1x4)

RR 47/1 in 5 overs: Time for spin. M. Ashwin in the attack now. Dot ball, then Padikkal works the ball to the leg side for two runs. Does it again to bring Buttler on strike. Buttler needs just 12 more to get to his half-century.

Dot ball again, it's worked to leg slip. Comes down the track and works the ball to deep midwicket for a single. A good length delivery to finish up, Padikkal goes back in his crease and hits back to the bowler.

RR 43/1 in 4 overs: Basil Thampi replaces Daniel Sams.

Short, in outside the off-stump, it's pulled to long-on by Buttler! Flat batted it! And a six!  And another! Two length balls and both are deposited in the stands by Buttler - one over long-on and the other to mid-wicket.

Thampi is being hammered. He bowls full, it's drilled down the ground by Buttler for four runs. It's a bowler killer! Six more! Full again, and it's slogged to long-on for six more! What hitting!

RR 17/1 in 3 overs: Bumrah bowls full, on off-stump, Buttler defends back to the bowler. A faster delivery, it seemed, length delivery that came on with the angle. Brushes the thighs, no run. Oh and a near run out! Buttler gets an inside edge to a short of a length delivery on middle stump, and runs a quick single. Jaiswal had to dive back to make it, and a direct hit would have had him!

And out! Jaiswal flicks the ball straight to the fielder at square leg! Mumbai draws first blood. Out for 1.

Yashasvi Jaiswal c Tim David b Bumrah  1 (2b)

Devdutt Padikkal is the new batter. Leaves the first delivery alone outside the off-stump. Final delivery of the over: it's full, lofted over mid-on's head for a boundary.

RR 11/0 in 2 overs: Short of a length by Daniel Sams, and Jaiswal taps the ball and runs a quick single. Tucked him up again, good bounce, it's short of a length again by Sams and the ball hits the chest of Buttler. Pulled, for six! Was prepared for the short ball, and pulled well for a six to square leg.

RR 4/0 in 1 over: Inswing from Bumrah first up. Excellent delivery, short of a length, misses the off-stump by a whisker. Similar delivery, Buttler tucks to the leg side and loudly says 'no' to his partner. And it's followed up by a yorker! But it's tailing towards the leg stump and Buttler helps it on his way for a boundary. Short of a length, in the corridor, Buttler fishes at it, but misses. Again, tucked him up, no run. Shouts of 'Bumrah, Bumrah' by the crowd. A full toss outside the off-stump to finish the over. Buttler couldn't put bat to ball.

Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal come out to bat. Rohit sets the field. Bumrah to bowl the first over. Buttler to face the first ball. All set for action!

15.20: Despite being hit on the toe during the game against DC, Ishan Kishan will be playing today. And Suryakumar Yadav is sitting out one more time. And Rohit's men may find the going tough if RR posts a big score and its bowlers - Prasidh Krishna, Boult, et al - make good use of the new ball under lights. RR's new-ball bowlers wrecked SRH a couple of days ago.

15.10: My bowling will be about keeping it simple, says Trent Boult who is playing for Rajasthan Royals this season, after a couple of years with Mumbai Indians. The pitch may have some bounce, and my bowling unit would like to be accurate and back its plans, he says.

1500 IST : Toss coming up.

Rohit and Sanju Samson walk up to the middle for the toss. MI wins the toss and chooses to bowl. Dew is not a factor, says Rohit, but he adds that his team will know exactly what to do during the run chase and that it's a situation preferred by his side. "This game will allow us to try and correct the mistakes we made in the previous game," he says.

MI has the same team as the previous one.

Sanju Samson says he would also have bowled first. Navdeep Saini comes in place of Nathan Coulter-Nile , who is injured.

A reminder: Mumbai Indians is searching for its first win, having lost to DC in the IPL opener, while RR already has a win in its kitty, having decimated SRH.

1450 IST : This is the third IPL match to be played at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai this season. The first match was a high-scoring encounter between RCB and Punjab Kings, and the second, in contrast, a low-scoring contest between RCB and the Knight Riders on March 30.

Will it be another low-scoring affair today?

PREVIEW

Mumbai Indians has won three out of its last five encounters against Rajasthan Royals, but statistics seldom matter in the Indian Premier League. Ahead of their outing at the DY Patil Stadium on Saturday, both franchises will be keen on registering a win.

The return of Suryakumar Yadav, who was nursing a finger injury, will bolster the Mumbai batting department.

Lasith Malinga, fast bowling coach of Rajasthan Royals, and Jasprit Bumrah of Mumbai Indians in conversation.

Mumbai did not have a perfect start to the tournament after going down to Delhi Capitals, whereas Rajasthan Royals registered a convincing victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The batting department excelled under the leadership of Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler. Among the bowlers, pacer Prasidh Krishna and spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and R. Ashwin have made an impact. “It’s always nice to have such high quality in your attack. To have them available throughout is another great plus,” said Kumar Sangakkara, director of cricket and head coach at Royals.

Five-time champion Mumbai, on the other hand, needs to regroup. Despite steady starts from captain Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, MI’s middle-order looked shaky against Delhi Capitals.

The focus, however, will be on the bowlers who failed to defend 177 against Capitals. Considering Royals’ power-packed batting line-up, Mumbai will be hoping for Jasprit Bumrah and Basil Thampi to fire. M. Ashwin picked up a couple of wickets on his debut for the franchise and needs to keep the momentum going.
