Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Shikhar Dhawan scored his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) century during his side's five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Dhawan's knock of 101 runs from 58 balls included 14 boundaries and one maximum. The 34-year-old Indian opener was also dropped thrice by the CSK players in the match.

Chasing 180 for the victory, Dhawan started his innings cautiously after he lost his opening partner Prithvi Shaw in the first over bowled by Deepak Chahar.

Chahar dismissed Ajinkya Rahane in the fifth over as well, and that was when Dhawan shifted gears. After scoring a four in the previous over, Dhawan tried to clear the deep square leg boundary with a slog sweep off the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja.

But the ball was headed straight towards Chahar, who made a mess of the catching opportunity. A few overs later, the DC batsman was once again dropped, this time by Chennai captain MS Dhoni off Dwayne Bravo's bowling.

Dhawan reached his third consecutive fifty of the tournament in the 10th over. He had scored an unbeaten 69 against Mumbai Indians and a 33-ball 57 against Rajasthan Royals in his last two games.

In the 16th over bowled by Shardul Thakur, his teammate Ambati Rayudu dropped another sitter to give Dhawan a third life as DC beat CSK by five wickets with a ball to spare.
