The Sunrisers Hyderabad has revamped its coaching unit with Brian Lara as the batting coach and the strategic advisor, Dale Steyn as the bowling coach and Simon Katich as the assistant coach ahead of the Indian Premier League 2022.
Tom Moody, who had a successful stint with the Sunrisers in the past, has been named as the head coach. The former Australian cricketer replaces England’s 2019 World Cup-winning coach Trevor Bayliss, who was in charge of the team over the last two editions.
Former India international Hemang Badani has been appointed as the fielding coach and scout, while Muttiah Muralitharan will continue as spin bowling coach and strategist.
The franchise’s decision comes after a disastrous outing in this year’s IPL, where the side finished at the bottom of the table. While Lara has been a regular in the IPL commentary panel, this will be his first assignment as a franchise’s batting coach. Steyn, who has played for multiple IPL teams in the past including Sunrisers, will start his new assignment with the franchise.
After poor show last season, the franchise parted ways with David Warner and several others, and only retained Kane Williamson, Abdul Samad and Umran Malik ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.
This season, SRH will also be without its mentor VVS Laxman, who has now taken over as the NCA director.
