Jasprit Bumrah becomes third Indian to take Test hat-trick

India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah takes hat-trick, five-for to crush West Indies' top-order in the second innings of the Jamaica Test.

India speedster Jasprit Bumrah took a hat-trick against West Indies in the second Test in Jamaica on Saturday. He became the third Indian bowler to take a Test hat-trick.

Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh is the first Indian bowler to achieve the feat. He had taken a hat-trick against Australia in the first innings of the historic Eden Gardens Test match in 2001. Left-arm pacer Irfan Pathan, who had tormented Pakistan in Karachi in 2006, is second in the list.

Skipper Virat Kohli had a role to play in Bumrah’s entry into the record books.

After dismissing Darren Bravo (caught at second slip by K.L. Rahul) and Shamarh Brooks (lbw), he bowled a sharp inswinger to Roston Chase. Beaten on the inside edge, the right-hander found himself trapped in front of the stumps. Though on a hat-trick, Bumrah didn't look too convinced. The umpire didn't raise his finger as well. But Kohli, fielding at slips, decided to trust his gut feeling. He called for a review that went in India's favour.

Chase was Bumrah's fourth wicket and Kraigg Brathwaite (caught behind), the fifth.

At the start of the innings, he had picked up the wicket of John Campbell.

The Indian registered his fifth Test five-for but before he could continue the rampage, a calf strain took him out of action. At the end of the the second day's play, his figures read 9.1-3-16-6.

In the first Test match in Antigua, Bumrah had registered the least expensive five-for by an Indian bowler (5/7).
