Potential bidders for the BCCI’s media rights for home international and domestic matches were so confused about the Media Rights Agreement (MRA) document that they raised 322 queries after which the pioneering e-tendering process was put off by a week to April 3. The BCCI had scheduled the e-tendering date on March 27.
Apart from the BCCI officials, including its legal team, e-commerce company Mjunction was consulted before clarifications were issued to the potential bidders for the three categories in (1) Global Television Rights plus Rest of the World (ROW) Digital Rights Package (GTVRD) (2) India Subcontinent Digital Rights Package (ID) and (3) Global Consolidated Rights Package (GCR) for global television rights and global digital rights.
Queries raised were mainly about the bidding process, eligibility, exploitation of rights, scope of rights, virtual reality rights, clip rights, data rights, in-flight on-board rights, mobile activation rights and archive rights.
Revision
The BCCI has also revised the ‘base/starting per match value’ (in all, 102 matches for five years) and the bidding increments on the total value for five contract years. It has fixed the ‘base price/per match value’ at ₹35 crore for GTVRD, ₹8 crore for ID and ₹43 crore for GCR, for 2018-19. The ‘base/starting per match value’ is ₹33 crore for GTVRD, ₹7 crore for ID and ₹40 crore for GCR for the four year ICC’s four-year cycle (2019-2023).
The incremental bid on the total value for five contract years has been revised to ₹20 crore (for GTVRD), ₹5 crore (for ID) and ₹25 crore (for GCR) from ₹50 lakh, ₹12 lakh and ₹50 lakh.
With Star India ’s agreement for live broadcast period extended up to the three-match ODI series between the women’s teams of India and England in Nagpur, the new media rights period will be from April 15, 2018 to March 31, 2023.
