Ranji Trophy 2018-19: Ravi Teja's maiden ton puts Hyderabad on top

T. Ravi Teja's maiden Ranji Trophy century helped Hyderabad crawl back from a tight spot and post a challenging first innings total of 460 against Delhi on Day two of the Group B match.

T. Ravi Teja cracked his maiden century in Ranji Trophy and strung together a 133-run stand with Chama Milind for the eighth wicket to help Hyderabad keep Delhi at bay.

Hyderabad rode on Teja's century to post 460 in the first innings on the second day of the Group B match at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium on Wednesday. In reply, Delhi was 21 for no loss at close of play.

Earlier, in the morning session, Hyderabad was rocked by a lively spell from left-arm pacer Kulwant Khejroliya, who combined pace and accuracy from pavilion end, to strike three quick blows.

As it Happened

First, Khejroliya cleaned up the well-set centurion Tanmay Agarwal with one that swung back and kept trifle low, then had wicketkeeper-batsman K. Sumanth nicking to slip cordon and soon trapped the dangerous-looking B. Sandeep on the backfoot shuffle.

At the other end, pacer Simarjit Singh dismissed Tanay Tyagarajan (1) cheaply to leave Hyderabad in a spot of bother at 265 for the loss of seven wickets.

Then, the two left-handers - No. 7 Ravi Teja (115 not out, 206b, 9 x 4, 1 x 6) and No. 9 Chama Milind (58, 127b, 8 x 4 1 x 6) - came up with a perfect blend of caution and aggression.

Ravi Teja brought up his maiden Ranji century in his fifth match in style when he stepped out to loft left-arm spinner Vikas Mishra over the bowler's head to the fence.

And, the partnership ended the only way it looked likely - Milind involved a suicidal run-out thanks to a perfect throw from the deep by Khejroliya.

If Delhi thought it could come back into the game, it was not to be as Hyderabad extended it’s agony till 25 minutes before scheduled close of play.
