Delhi is set to have a new captain in its North Zone T20 League campaign when Pradeep Sangwan replaces Rishabh Pant.

Pant, who led Delhi to the final of the Ranji Trophy, was said to have been found wanting when dealing with some of the seniors in the team. Sangwan’s elevation is based on the belief that he will command his place in the dressing room and curtain acts of indiscipline.

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) continued to drag its feet on the issue of implementing discipline, which has dogged the team for two seasons now. The state selectors too have ‘accommodated’ some names who may not be the best choices in the horses for courses policy.

In a shocking move, Unmukt Chand, a batsman who many experts felt needed to be backed at this critical stage of his career, does not find a place in the team. Unmukt is rated as a very effective batsman against the white ball and obviously has lost out to players who had the backing of a senior BCCI official.

Sangwan, who had undergone punishment for a dope offence, was cleared by the team physiotherapist. “He has been certified fit,” said a team official.

The squad: Pradeep Sangwan (Captain), Gautam Gambhir, Nitish Rana, Sarthak Ranjan, Dhruv Shorey, Lalit Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Himmat Singh, Navdeep Saini, Pawan Negi, Kulwant Khejroliya, Kshitij Sharma, Tejas Baroka, Subodh Bhati, Gaurav Kumar.
