A Twenty20 game between a Sri Lanka XI and a World XI will be held at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on September 8. The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board will host the match which is aimed at raising funds for disaster-affected children following floods and droughts in various parts of the island.

Ashley de Silva, the SLC CEO, said that the squads will combine both past and present cricketers, and he also mentioned that the game had ICC’s approval.

"We are not in a position to reveal the names of the players. The idea of staging this match was first broached at the chief executives’ meeting of the ICC where our president Thilanga Sumathipala expressed the desire to raise funds to help those affected by the tragedies. All member boards of the ICC pledged their full support. We expect players from up to seven countries to make up the World XI, including from India," de Silva said.

Unfortunately, Kumar Sangakkara will miss the contest as he has prior county commitments.
