'Voice of everyone' - Ganguly justifies his letter

Sourav Ganguly said only people in the BCCI administration know the real situation and it was important to write the letter.

Ganguly’s letter comes at a time when the two-member CoA appears divided over the sexual allegations against the BCCI CEO, Rahul Johri.

 

A day after his letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressing his concerns over the future of Indian cricket, former India captain Sourav Ganguly has made it clear that his view is also the ‘voice of everyone’.

Speaking to

Sportstar from Kolkata on Wednesday afternoon, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) chief said he chose to write the letter to the three office-bearers of the Board because it was much needed.

“I wrote it (the letter) because it was important. That is the voice of everyone. You speak to the broadcasters, you speak to other people and they will tell you the same thing,” Ganguly said.

In his letter, the former India captain — who also heads the BCCI technical committee — has spoken about the sudden change of rules in domestic cricket as per the whims and fancies of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators. “The committee of CoA has come down to two and now the two seems to be divided...Cricketing rules are changed in the middle of a season, which has never been heard of. Decisions made in the committees are turned around with complete disrespect, my experience in the matter of coach selection was appalling (the less said the better),” Ganguly wrote in the letter on Tuesday.

And the former captain admitted that he stands by whatever he has stated. “It is simple. what is there in the letter (is absolutely true) … you can speak to people and they will tell you the same thing. Everyone is aware of what is happening (around),” Ganguly said.

While he refers to it as the voice of everyone, has Ganguly got a chance to speak to some of his former colleagues — ex-cricketers — about the ongoing situation in the BCCI?

“The cricketers won’t know what is happening in the administration. Only the people involved in administration will know what is happening. It is as simple,” Ganguly remarked.

Ganguly’s letter comes at a time when the two-member CoA appears divided over the sexual allegations against the BCCI CEO, Rahul Johri. And he believes that it is important to resurrect the image of the board, which has taken a beating under the CoA.
