Sri Lanka's data analyst tests Covid-19 positive ahead of India series

This is the second case in the Sri Lankan team after batting coach Grant Flower tested positive for the virus on Thursday.

Sri Lanka's data analyst G. T. Niroshan has tested positive for Covid 19 ahead of the limited overs series against India.

This is the second case in the Sri Lankan team after batting coach Grant Flower tested positive for the virus on Thursday.

Niroshan was found to be positive, following a PCR Test carried out among the National Players, Coaches, and Support Staff. Niroshan is now undergoing due medical protocols.

While this has led to questions on whether the series against India - scheduled to begin on July 13 - will go ahead, the officials at Sri Lanka Cricket have told Sportstar that it already has a contingency plan in place. The SLC has kept two separate group of players in bio-bubbles - in Colombo and Dambulla - so that in case need be, a new team can be formed.  

After Fower and Niroshan tested positive for the virus, the squad will now be forced to spend at least two more days in isolation, and will also undergo another RT-PCR test. “Only after the results are negative, it will determine whether they can enter the bio-bubble,” a SLC source said, indicating that they are confident of pulling off the series without problems.

Even the BCCI officials indicated that as of now the series will go ahead. However, there is a possibility that a couple of matches could be rescheduled.
