Vidarbha pacer Rajneesh Gurbani has turned all heads this season by scalping 39 wickets.

Most of the Vidarbha cricketers were still in deep sleep when Rajneesh Gurbani checked out of the team hotel early in the morning. The young pacer, who has turned all heads this season — scalping 39 wickets — was in a hurry to reach the airport on time. He was 'quietly' travelling to Mumbai to try his luck for a chance to play in the cash-rich glitzy Indian Premier League (IPL).

With the cricketing fraternity going gaga over his feat in the Ranji Trophy, IPL defending champion, Mumbai Indians, has asked the young Vidarbha pacer to attend the final trials, which begin on Tuesday.

When  Sportstar  asked Gurbani about a confirmation on the development, the youngster —who was waiting at the boarding arena inside the airport — laughed and softly replied, “ haan, matlab, wohi … (you know)…”. A couple of seconds later, Gurbani added: “Yes, I have been called for the trials in Mumbai. Let’s see how it goes.”

Known for tapping promising talents, Mumbai Indians, in 2016, had brought in the then Rajasthan talent Nathu Singh for a whopping Rs 3.2 crore. Having warmed the bench that season, Nathu gradually faded out of the scene. Though he played for Gujarat Lions last season, the Rajasthan pacer ran out of favour even in the domestic circuit after his performance dwindled.

Ever since Gurbani grabbed the eyeballs with his fascinating performances, many in the cricketing fraternity, believed that the young Vidarbha pacer would be a sought after domestic talent in the IPL. He has had a dream outing in the Ranji Trophy, now Gurbani would be hoping to put up a good show in the trials.
