Injuries to Spain's David Silva (left) and Argentina's Sergio Aguero comes as a huge blow to Manchester City, who are at the top of the league table.

Argentine striker Sergio Aguero has been ruled out for a month with a hamstring injury suffered in their 0-2 home defeat against Ecuador. The 27-year-old was stretchered off after just 22 minutes on Thursday.

“I think I’ll be a month without playing,” Aguero was quoted as saying by bbc.com on Saturday.

The Manchester City striker may miss four English Premier League games as a result of his latest injury.

To make matters worse for the Premier League side, midfielder David Silva has been ruled out of Spain’s visit to Ukraine on Monday after being forced off in the European champions 4-0 win over Luxembourg on Friday.

He was substituted within the first half hour before two goals each from Santi Cazorla and Paco Alcacer mathematically sealed Spain’s place in next year’s European Championships in France.

“David Silva has been ruled out of the squad due to a severe sprain in the lateral collateral ligament of his right ankle,” the Spanish football federation said in a statement on their website.

The Spanish federation added that they had been in contact with Manchester City, but refused to state how he will be sidelined.
