HT 0-0: Brazil struggles to stave off Mexican attack

Mexico was the aggressive team but Brazil defenders did well to keep the attackers at bay.

Brazil and Mexico were indulged in an intense slug-fest but failed to break the deadlock at halftime in their Round-of016 clash at the Samara Arena on Monday.

Mexico was on the money from the word go and made many a threating attack while Brazil Brazil failed to find a single touch in the opposition box.

Carlos Vela and Hirving Lozano combined well on the flanks but the Brazil defence held on and averted any danger.

Brazil upped the ante, by the 20th minute, but Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa kept Brazil at bay, as he had done four years ago.

Gabriel Jesus combined well with Neymar but an agile and sturdy Mexican defence kept the strikers at bay.

As the game neared the half hour mark, Mexico slightly let the intensity off and Brazil took its chances but it wasn't enough to bring about any change in the scoreboard.

Neymar and Philippe Coutinho were denied with good saves by Ochoa as the teams went into break with the scoreline intact.
