Uruguay lead the tie 1-0 against Saudi Arabia, after first 45 minutes of the Group A match in Rostov Arena, courtesy a Luis Suarez goal.

Both the teams started out cautiously in the first quarter of an hour with most of the action taking place in the midfield.

But the game sprang to life in the 23rd minute when an unmarked Luis Suarez, playing his 100th match for Uruguay, scored off a corner kick.

Hatan Bahebri had a shot on target at the other end, but Saudi Arabia was lacking the sting in the final third. The game settled into a subdued mood again with defences on either side thwarting opponent's attacks.
