The 24-year-old midfielder has started only four matches of his 13 appearances in the league during the 2017-18 season, compared to 30 appearances last season. His last nintey minute appearance for the club came on 11th January during a 5-0 win over Celta Vigo.

"I shut myself away," he said in an interview with Spanish football magazine Panenka .

"I don't allow myself to let out the frustration that I have. So, what I do is I don't talk to anyone, I don't annoy anyone," said the former Benfica midfielder.

Last week, Gomes was booed off by the Barcelona fans after he was substituted against Atletico Madrid.

"It's as if I feel ashamed. The notion of not wanting to leave the house has happened to me on more than one occasion.

"The idea of people being able to see you, it gives off a fear of going out into the street because of embarrassment," said Gomes.
