India's U-17 side, currently on an exposure trip in Portugal, lost 2-1 to Vitoria de Setubal U-17 in its first practice match at the Jose Mourinho Training Center in Lisbon on Tuesday.

In a tightly contested match, the Colts matched blow to blow against their opponents, but were left reeling in front of goal as chances created were seldom taken. Though the side dominated possession in the opening minutes of the match, it was the Portuguese opponent which created the first goal-scoring chance of the match.

In the 16th minute, Setubal U-17 rattled the Indian crossbar and eventually took the lead in the 38th minute. Bruno Ventura scored from the penalty spot after India was penalised for a reckless tackle inside the box. Both sides went into the half-time break at 1-0.

Aniket the bright spark

In the second half, however, India upped the ante and pressed for the equaliser. Aniket Jadhav's shot in the 47th minute went inches over the bar and a minute later he missed the goal yet again by a whisker.

The side restored parity in the 67th minute from 12 yards out as Aniket made no mistake from the penalty spot. As both teams pressed on for the winner, it was the host that took the game as Setubal U-17 scored in the 85th minute as the full-time score read 2-1.

The Colts will next face Belenenses on April 25 in Jamor, Portugal. The game will kick-off at 21:00 IST.
