I-League champion Aizawl to play friendly against Chennaiyin FC

Reigning I-League champion Aizawl FC will play a friendly game against 2015 ISL champion Chennaiyin FC on November 5 at Chennai's SDAT-Nehru Park.

Reigning I-League champion Aizawl Football Club will play a friendly match against Chennaiyin FC (CFC) on November 5 at SDAT-Nehru Park. A full-strength side including the coach and manager will be arriving in the city on November 3.

Aizawl is looking forward to playing against the former champion. After the match, the team is expected to leave the Southern metropolis on November 6. “It will be a good exposure for us and for them [Chennaiyin FC] as well,” said Hmingthana Zadeng, Aizawl FC’s manager.

Hmingthana added that the friendly match with the John Gregory-coached team will be a good preparation for the ongoing domestic league back home in Mizoram. “We have our next match on November 10 at home, and certainly the match with Chennaiyin will help us,” he said.

Chennaiyin FC returns home to rousing reception

CFC)returned to the city in the early hours of Thursday morning after a three week pre-season training camp at Hua Hin, Thailand.

Just like previous seasons, CFC received a warm welcome from fans at the airport. There were flags, garlands and custom made banners accompanied by player chants.

The 2015 ISL champion played three friendly matches in Thailand, losing 2-0 to newly-promoted Thai Premier League side Air Force Central FC and and was beaten 3-1 by Thai Premier League outfit Thai Port FC.

However, CFC notched up a win over Bangkok United 3-0 in its final pre-season friendly in Thailand. The side starts its campaign with a home fixture against FC Goa on November 19, Sunday.
