Henrik Stenson has said a second Race to Dubai title would rank among his greatest achievements, as he prepares for the final event of the 2016 European Tour season. Stenson, who produced a spectacular performance at The Open in July to win his first major, is in pole position to be crowned Europe's No. 1 for the second time, having previously claimed the honour in 2013 when he also won the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup.

Ahead of this week's World Tour Championship, Dubai, the Swede leads Danny Willett in the Race to Dubai rankings, with Alex Noren and Rory McIlroy also still in with a chance of claiming the Harry Vardon Trophy.

Speaking on the day he was awarded honorary life membership of the European Tour, Stenson said: "It was pretty sweet to be here as Europe's No. 1 in 2013 and I don't think it would be any less sweet being here as Europe's No. 1 in 2016, with the season that I've had and winning The Open and some other fine performances throughout the year.

"It would be one of my finest achievements. I'm in a great position. I couldn't have asked for anything better. I wanted to be in a position where I had it in my own hands, knowing that if I win here, that would seal the deal. And I'm in an even better position given that I don't necessarily need to win, even though that's my mindset coming in here."

Stenson will play alongside Willett in the final group on Thursday, with the players having been paired up based on their positions in the Race to Dubai.
