Hamilton changes power unit ahead of Chinese GP

A failure of Hamilton's MGU-H on Saturday meant he was unable to post a time and the three-time world champion will start Sunday's race in Shanghai from the back of the grid.

Lewis Hamilton will start the Chinese GP from the back of the grid. 

Reigning Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton will use his second power unit of the 2016 season after technical issues in qualifying at the Chinese Grand Prix.

A failure of Hamilton's MGU-H on Saturday meant he was unable to post a time and the three-time world champion will start Sunday's race in Shanghai from the back of the grid. 

Team-mate Nico Rosberg, who has won both races so far in 2016, took pole ahead of Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo and Hamilton's Mercedes will be fitted with a new power unit as he aims to work his way through the field and challenge the German on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Nico Hulkenberg has been handed a three-place grid penalty after he lost a wheel towards the end of Q2 on Saturday, with Force India found guilty of releasing the car in an unsafe condition.

Hulkenberg's front left wheel flew off at Turn 10 towards the end of that session, and the German was classified 10th after he was unable to compete in Q3.

The penalty means Williams' Felipe Massa and the McLaren duo of Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button are all promoted one place.
