The McLaren Formula One team on Friday said it will not be entering the American IndyCar series next year, but may yet take part in the Indianapolis 500.

Team chief Zak Brown told reporters at the United States Grand Prix that a final decision on racing in Indianapolis would not be taken until the end of the current F1 season.

“We're not ready yet and we're very focused on Formula One,” Brown said, explaining the team's decision which ended speculating that they might have entered the IndyCar series with retirement-bound two-time champion Fernando Alonso.

The Spaniard has set his sights on completing a “triple crown” of motorsport by adding an Indianapolis 500 triumph to his victory this year in the Le Mans 24-Hours race and triumph in the Monaco Grand Prix.
