Welcome to the highlights of India's shooting events on Competition Day 7 at Tokyo 2020. This was Santadeep Dey taking you through all the action as it unfolded at the Asaka Shooting Range.

HIGHLIGHTS

WOMEN'S 25M PISTOL FINAL

Russian Olympic Committee's Vitalina Batsarashkina picks gold... AGAIN! This is her third Tokyo 2020 medal; after a gold in the individual event and silver in the mixed team of 10m air pistol. She beats South Korea's Kim Minjung in a shoot-off. China's Xiao Jiaruixuan wins bronze. Here are the top eight shooters who have qualified for the event final at 2 PM local time (10:30 AM IST) today: Kostadinova, Xiao, Batsarashkina, Vennekamp, Tien, Anna Korakaki (GRE), Chia-Ying Wu (TPE) and Minjung Kim (KOR).

WOMEN'S 25M PISTOL QUALIFICATION - RAPID FIRE STAGE

Final Qualification Rankings: Manu finishes 15th, Rahi 32nd.

RELAY 4/4 - Series 3: Xiao had reserved the best for the last! A perfect series sees her finish second in overall qualification behind Kostadinova. Chinese Taipei's Chia Chen Tien qualifies as well, with a 99 after two successive 97s.

- Series 2: Yet another 98 and Xiao may end up being the only fourth relay shooter in the final.

- Series 1: Xiao Jiaruixiuan of China leads Relay 4 with a 98 in the first series. Overall, she is 8th.

RELAY 3/4

  • Manu (Series 3): 582-17x [97 - 10, 10, 9, 10, 10, 8, 10, 10, 10, 10] Manu drops to 11th after the third relay as her Tokyo 2020 campaign comes to a disastrous end! Seems like the horror of the 8s aren't letting her go any time soon... Meanwhile, Bulgaria's Antoaneta Kostadinova drops only one point in her last two 10-shot series to take the top spot. Batsarashkina is second. Germany's Doreen Vennekamp is third, thanks to a whopping 99, 100, 100 in the Rapid Fire stage!
  • Manu (Series 2): 485-14x [97 - 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 9, 9, 9] What seemed to be headed towards a perfect series wasn't to be. After seven 10s on the trot, Manu shoots three consecutive 9s. If she drops more than three points in the last series, she will crash out of the competition.
  • Manu (Series 1): 388-11x [96 - 10, 10, 10, 9, 10, 10, 10, 9, 8, 10] Manu, as things stand, cannot afford to drop more than 10 points off her three series. A promising start, followed by a slip in the late stages... Manu's Olympics has been riddled with similar errors. -4 after the first series as she drops to 9th place.

RELAY 2/4

- Series 3: Wu Chia-Ying's series of 98, 98, 99 lift her to the fourth place on the combined scoreboard. Batsarashkina is third. This also means, Rahi , who is 15th, after the first two relays, has been eliminated .

- Series 2: Batsarashkina with a 99 and an average score of 9.76 per shot has gone up to the third spot!

- Series 1: Vitalina Batsarashkina of the Russian Olympic Committee and Ecuador's Andrea Perez Pena lead this relay batch after the first 10 shots.

RELAY 1/4

  • Rahi (Series 3): 573-23x [96 - 10, 9, 10, 10, 10, 7, 10, 10, 10, 10] Rahi is eighth among the Relay 1 participants after the two qualification stages. With more than 30 people yet to compete and only eight set to qualify for the final, the 30-year-old is set to crash out of the event.
  • Rahi (Series 2): 477-20x [94 - 10, 10, 10, 6, 9, 10, 10, 10, 10, 9] A 6 from Rahi! That should be it. It will be close to impossible to recover from here even if she registers a 10 in all of her remaining shots.
  • Rahi (Series 1): 383-16x [96 - 9, 10, 8, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 9, 10] This isn't the start Rahi would have wanted. She has slipped out of the top 30 now, with a 9 and an 8 off her first five shots in this stage. She comes up with a better score after the next five shots, dropping a solitary point.

ICYMI: WOMEN'S 25M PISTOL QUALIFICATION - PRECISION STAGE HIGHLIGHTS

India pistol shooter Manu Bhaker got off to a confident start in the precision stage of the women's 25m pistol qualification round on Thursday, registering a total of 292 off her six 5-shot series.

The 19-year-old shot a perfect 50 during the sixth series, which propelled her to the fifth position on the standings.

Rahi Sarnobat, on the other hand, faltered in her second series before hitting 49 in the third to provide the Indian team some hope. However, she ended up dropping 13 points before the finish to end the precision stage on the 25th spot in a field of 44 shooters.

The shooters will next take part in the Rapid Fire stage today, from where the top eight will qualify for the final.

RULES OF WOMEN'S 25M PISTOL QUALIFICATION

The participants are asked to shoot from a distance of 25m (27.34 yards) using a 5.6 millimeters (0.22 inches) caliber pistol with a maximum weight of 1.4 kilograms.

The center of the target (total diameter-500 mm) is positioned at 1.4 meters above the floor.

During the qualification round, every athlete has to fire 60 shots, divided in two stages of 30 shots each: a  Precision Stage  and Rapid Fire Stage .

In Precision, athletes have to fire six five-shot series within five minutes. In Rapid Fire, green lights are turned on for 3 seconds per shot, while the red lights between consecutive greens last for 7 seconds.

The maximum score per shot is 10 points.
