Dipa Karmakar wins vault final at Olympic Test Event

Starting at number three, the Indian gymnast ended with a total score of 14.833. Uzbekistan's Oksana Chusovitina came second with a total score of 14.716. After the win, Dipa said: "It is a good feeling to win a gold medal. My next objective is an Olympic medal podium."

Dipa Karmakar became the first Indian gymnast to win a gold in women's vault in an Olympic Test event. She clinched the top ranking in the final of the 2016 Aquece Rio Final Gymnatics Qualifier Test event, having already qualified for the Rio Olympics at the qualification stage.

Starting at number three, the Indian gymnast had a 15.100 score in the first jump and a 14.566 in the second jump. She ended with a total score of 14.833. Uzbekistan's Oksana Chusovitina, a silver medallist at 2008 Beijing Olympics, was second with a total score of 14.716 and Australia's Emily Little came third with 14.383.

“It is a good feeling to win a gold medal,” Dipa was quoted as saying at the official facebook page of the International Federation of Gymnastics. “My next objective is an Olympic medal podium,” she said after clinching the gold in vaults finals..

The Aquece is the final event for gymnasts from all over the world, giving them one last chance to earn an Olympic berth. It also gives the gymnasts an opportunity to practice on the new surface, which will sport a green colour, unlike the regular blue.

Around 100 Olympic berths are up for grabs in the event.

With Dipa's current win and also a feel of the new surface, India can hope for an encouraging result in the coming Games.
