Dutch swimmer reaches Olympics months after cancer surgery

Three-time Olympian Inge Dekker is set to make her fourth appearance at the Games after overcoming cervical cancer and surgery in March to qualify for Rio.

The 30-year-old has already won gold, winning the 4x100metre relay in Beijing as well as bronze in 2004 and silver in 2012 and now her ticket to Brazil has been punched after qualifying as part of a squad of 17 for the upcoming Games in August.

Dekker was diagnosed with cervical cancer in February before undergoing surgery in March, which forced her to miss the European championships in London in May as she continued her recovery.

But the time off was spent well as Dekker completed her remarkable comeback to book her spot in the team as part of the relay squad, while she was also down for the 50m freestyle and the 100m butterfly.

The 17-person squad features 10 Olympic debutants.
