Monaco to host Laureus awards

The Laureus Sports Awards for the year 2017 will be held in Monaco on February 14.

Novak Djokovic won the Laureus Sportsman of the Year award in the last ceremony held in April, 2016.

The Laureus Sports Awards for the year 2017 will be held in Monaco on February 14, it has been announced. The event, held every year, recognises sporting achievements in the previous calendar year.

Novak Djokovic currently possesses the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award and Serena Williams the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year.

Laureus ambassador Nico Rosberg announced the venue of the awards ceremony in a video released on social media. Monaco, the "birthplace of the first ever Laureus awards", was returns as the host city after 17 years. Last year, it was held in Berlin.

Nominees in seven categories of awards will be announced on January 11, 2017.

Proceeds from the awards ceremony go to Laureus Sport for Good foundation.
