Randhir Singh set to become first Indian president of Olympic Council of Asia

A native of Punjab, Randhir was also a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from 2001 to 2014 and continues as an honourary member.

Former Indian shooter Raja Randhir Singh will be officially appointed as the first Indian president of the Olympic Council of Asia at its 44th General Assembly, which will take place at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, in New Delhi on Sunday.

Randhir was unanimously chosen by OCA representatives earlier this year, as he was the only candidate running for the position.

Randhir served as the Secretary General of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) from 1991 to 2015. He then became life vice president until 2021, after which he was appointed acting president.

A native of Punjab, Randhir was also a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from 2001 to 2014 and continues as an honourary member.

As an athlete, he competed in four Asian Games between 1978 and 1994, winning two individual medals and one team medal. He also participated in the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada.
