Talukdar, Kumari secure doubles’ bronze in Asian C’ship

Jayanta Talukdar and Deepika Kumari defeated Chinese pair of Cao Hui and Huang Rui in the playoff for the third position.

Jayanta Talukdar and Deepika Kumari have clinched the bronze medal in the recurve doubles’ category at the ongoing Asian Archery Championship in Bangkok. Further success in the Men’s recurve event, with Talukdar and Atanu Das qualifying to the fourth round in the men’s recurve category, rounds off an impressive day for Indian archers in the competition.

Das won his third round tie against Sadegh Ashrafi of Iran, and Talukdar defeated Khomkrit Duangsuwan of Thailand. The Talukdar-Kumari duo defeated Chinese pair of Cao Hui and Huang Rui in the playoff for the third position, after they had lost to the Chinese Taipei pair Le Chien-Ying and Wei Chun-Heng in the semis.

In the women’s recurve, India’s Laxmirani Majhi and Deepika Kumari have moved to the fourth round. Kumari defeated Kata Ayano of Japan, and Laxmirani defeated Ri Un Ok, in the third round. In the compound doubles’ event, Abhishek Verma and Jyothi Surekha Vennam missed out on clinching the bronze medal as they finished fourth. In the other categories, namely, the compound singles for men and women, the fourth round is yet to happen.
