The paraplegic athlete, who won gold in three events – 100m, 200m and 400m - was taken in a grand parade, complete with a ceremonial band from the gates of his regiment, MEG & Centre, to the regiment headquarters. Brig Y.P.S. Wadhwa and all ranks of MEG received him at the headquarters.
Subedar Anandan, who hails from Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district, had lost a limb when as part of his regiments operations along the border, he stepped on a mine in June 2008.
While Anandan won three golds, other MEG personal also secured medals. Havildar Deepak bagged a silver (light flyweight boxing), and Naib Subedar Sriram Balaji won bronze (tennis singles).
