Yash, Chaitanya enter semifinals

Yash Fadte and Chaitanya Shah reached the semifinals of the U-19 event in the third Indian Classic Junior Open squash tournament.

16-year-old Fadte, who has been making waves in the men’s and the junior circuit, clashed with Raunak Advani and had an easy 11-7, 11-1, 11-4 win.

Unseeded Yash Fadte and Chaitanya Shah played to their potential to reach the semifinals of the U-19 event in the third Indian Classic Junior Open squash tournament at the Bombay Gymkhana courts on Tuesday.

The 16-year-old Fadte, who has been making waves in the men’s and the junior circuit, clashed with Raunak Advani and had an easy 11-7, 11-1, 11-4 win.

“This has been a great couple of weeks for me as I have been put my training to good use and I have gained a lot of confidence by playing against some of the top players,” Fadte said.

Chaitanya, who caused an upset in the last round, followed up on his performance, defeating Ajay Unadkat — who is seeded in the 5/8 bracket. Though he appeared a bit jittery, Chaitanya managed to pull off a 11-9, 11-8, 11-2 victory.

It will be an exciting semifinal as Chaitanya will take on the India No 1, Tushar Shahani. Meanwhile, top seed Tushar Shahani beat Shloke Sahaya 11-8, 11-6, 11-4 to advance to the last-four.

In a girls U-19 match, Unseeded Sanya Vats stunned second seed Radhika Rathore to reach the semis. Sanya completely dominated the match leaving no room for Radhika to make a comeback and won it 11-3, 11-5, 11-8.

Sanya will be playing Namvi Sharma, who has dropped very few points on her way to the semis. Top Seed Amita Gondi breezed past Shloke Sahay without any difficulties. Amita defeated Shloke 11-8, 11-6 11-4.
