India’s P. V. Sindhu has set up a mouth-watering clash against World No. 1 Carolina Marin in the badminton women's singles. Sindhu will take on the World champion on Friday, hoping to become India’s first gold medallist in the sport.
The Spaniard has won four of the seven encounters between the duo, with Sindhu winning the other three. Marin defeated Sindhu 21-17, 21-9 in their last encounter at the Hong Kong Superseries in November 2015.
On Thursday, World No. 10 Sindhu registered a 21-19, 21-10 triumph in the semifinals over World No. 6 Nozomi Okuhara.
Marin also entered her maiden Olympic final, beating the defending Olympic champion Li Xuerui of China 21-14, 21-16.
