61st National shooting championships: Shahzar Rizvi bags 10m air pistol gold

Shahzar Rizvi (Indian Air Force) shot a National record total of 241.7 points and took the men’s 10m air pistol gold at the 61st National shooting championships, which concluded at the National Games shooting range here on Sunday.
The Air Force shooter, who was second behind Omprakash Mithrawal (Army) by a point – 584 to 583 – in qualification which comprised 568 shooters, was in the lead right through the nine-round final before stamping his class in style to erase his previous record of 240.7 set in Brisbane earlier this year.
Yashwant Singh (Army) took silver, a good four points behind the winner, pushing team-mate Mithrawal (218.) to the third spot.
Anmol grabs gold
In the junior men’s category, Anmol Jain (Haryana) won gold with a record total of 244.1, bettering the old record of Saurabh Chaudhary – 218.5 – by a huge margin.
Chaudhary (Uttar Pradesh) also had a better score than the previous National record as he finished second with 238.8, while Pankaj Yadav (Border Security Force) was pushed to the third spot with 218.6.
Chaudhary sets new national record
Chaudhary, however, had the consolation of winning the youth section gold with a new national record to boot. The Uttar Pradesh shooter, in the final of this section, tallied a score of 245.3 to obliterate his own record of 243.1 as he took the title ahead of Chandigarh’s Udhayveer Sidhu (240.8) and Haryana’s Sarabjot Singh (221.3).
In the team event of the senior section, Army Marksmanship Unit struck gold with a total of 1734 points ahead of Punjab (1730) and Indian Air Force (1728).
Overall, Haryana stood first in the points table with 168 points even as Punjab (127) and Maharashtra (118) followed behind it.
