Prakash Nanjappa had a 10.2 on the last shot to pip compatriot Amanrpeet Singh by 0.4 point to the gold in men’s free pistol in the Commonwealth Shooting Championship in Brisbane on Friday.
It was a sweep of medals for the Indian team as the much accomplished Jitu Rai took the bronze, after grappling with a string of 7s in the final. The Indian men’s pistol shooters had earlier swept the air pistol medals.
Both Prakash and Amanpreet had qualified with modest scores of 542 and 543 respectively, while JItu Rai had topped with 559.
For a shooter with Asian Games gold and the World Championship silver, it was a below par fare, but Jitu was happy to add the free pistol bronze to the air pistol bronze that he had won earlier. He has not been in good form after winning the mixed air pistol gold with Heena Sidhu in the World Cup Final in Delhi recently.
