Indian shooters off target on the final day of WC

Gagan Narang misses final by one point as India finish joint third on the back of Jitu Rai’s gold. China finish on top of the table with 12 medals with U.S. securing the second spot with two medals.

Gagan Narang finished 10th in the men's rifle 3-position event of the shooting WC, in Bangkok on Tuesday.

Gagan Narang shot 1159 and missed the final by one point in the men’s rifle 3-position event in the shooting World Cup that concluded in Bangkok on Tuesday.

Gagan was placed 10th following scores of 382 in kneeling, 389 in prone and 379 in standing position. Chain Singh was two points away on the 11th position, while Sanjeev Rajput tumbled to the 23rd spot with a total of 1148 in a field of 41.

Matthew Emmons won the gold ahead of Serhiy Kulish of Ukraine, while the qualification topper Yamashita Toshikazu (1178) of Japan was placed seventh. Incidentally, the second highest score was 1169 as the overall scores dipped due to tough conditions.

Thanks to Jitu Rai’s gold in the 50-metre free pistol event, India finished joint third with Brazil, Denmark and Germany among the 16 teams that managed to win at least a medal.

China topped the table with 12 medals (five gold, three silver and four bronze) while U.S. was a distant second with a gold and a silver.
