Ankur Mittal won gold in the men's trap shooting at the ISSF World Championship.

Ankur Mittal won the gold in men’s double trap as he beat two others in the shoot-off after being tied on 140 in the 52nd World Shooting Championship in Changwon, Korea, on Saturday.

The 26-year-old Ankur, who had won the silver in the Shotgun World Championship last year in Moscow, came up with a perfect last round of 30 to tie with Yang Yiyang of China and Hubert Andrzej Olejnik of Slovakia.

In the shoot-off, Ankur shot four to beat the other two for the gold in an event which has ceased to be part of the Olympic programme.

Mohd. Asab shot 135 for the seventh spot in a field of 25, while the Asian Games silver medalist, 15-year-old Shardul Vihan placed 15th with 134, following a 24 in the fifth round. The trio won the team bronze, two points behind champion Italy.

India reached the third spot in the medals table with seven gold, seven silver and six bronze, behind Korea and China. However, there was no addition to the two Olympic quota places won by Anjum Moudgil and Apurvi Chandela in women’s air rifle.

Anjum Moudgil shot 1,170 and missed the final in women’s rifle 3-position event on the basis of the lesser number of inner-10s, but it did not matter much as she was ineligible to win any more Olympic quota, even though she would have been happy to fight for a second medal.

The 16-year-old Manu Bhaker who had shot 593 in qualification in women’s sports pistol in the Asian Games shot 584 and missed the final by virtue of the lesser number of inner-10s.

The Asian Games gold medallist in the event, Rahi Sarnobat and the Commonwealth Games gold medallist Heena Sidhu were not at their best.

In junior mixed trap team event, the second Indian team of Manisha Keer and Manavaditya Singh Rathore placed fourth after having qualified in the second place with 139
