ISSF World Cup: Shahzar Rizvi strikes gold, Jitu Rai bags bronze in 10m air pistol

Meerut-based shooter Shahzar Rizvi clinched gold in the ISSF World Cup with a world record score, while Jitu Rai grabbed bronze in 10m air pistol men's final on Saturday.

Striking a score of 242.3, Shahzar made sure that he gave India a taste of gold.

Meerut-based shooter Shahzar Rizvi clinched gold in the ISSF World Cup with a world record score, while Jitu Rai grabbed bronze in 10m air pistol men's final on Saturday. India collected its third medal of the day when Mehuli Ghosh shot 228.4 to win bronze in the women's 10m air rifle event.

Striking a score of 242.3, Shahzar made sure that he gave India a taste of gold and kept his cool to achieve his target. He defeated Christian Reitz of Germany in the final.

Three Indian shooters--Shahzar, Jitu and Om Prakash Mitharval--had made it to the final round of the competition. While the vastly experienced Jitu had to be happy with a bronze, Shahzar gave Indians a good start to the tournament. Mitharwal finished fourth, having scored 198.4 points.

In the women's 10m air rifle, Anjum Moudgil took fourth place, and Apurvi Chandela seventh.
