Kusale, Nagar win gold in Asian C’ship

Swapnil Kusale and Shainki Nagar won the gold medals as the Indian team collected five gold and two bronze on the third day of the 13th Asian shooting championship in Kuwait City, on Thursday.

Swapnil Kusale and Shainki Nagar won the gold medals as the Indian team collected five gold and two bronze on the third day of the 13th Asian shooting championship in Kuwait City, on Thursday. Kusale won the junior men’s 50-metre rifle prone gold with a final Asian junior record score of 185.4 points, 1.8 point ahead of Mohammmed Saad Allmubarak of Qatar. With Ishan Goel and Akhil Sheoran, Kusale won the team gold for India 8.7 point ahead of Korea.

In youth men’s air rifle, Shainki Nagar, who had won the Asian Youth Games silver in 2013 in China, clinched the gold, five points ahead of Yeom Jinseok of Korea, while Samarjit Singh settled for the bronze. The Indian trio, with the fourth-placed Mohit Gour as the third member took the gold, 13 points ahead of Korea.

Sumedh Kumar, who had won the free pistol junior men’s bronze on the opening day, continued with his good work to take the air pistol bronze. The team, with Hemendra Kushwah and Achal Pratap Grewal as the other members, won the gold, one point ahead of Korea. In women’s skeet, Rashmee Rathore (67) and Saniya Sheikh (63) are placed 11th and 20th respectively. The Indian contingent took its overall tally to 21 medals, seven each in gold, silver and bronze.
