ISSF Rifle/Pistol World Cup 2019, Day 5: As it happened

Hello and welcome to Sportstar's LIVE coverage of the fourth day of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Rifle/Pistol World Cup 2019 in New Delhi.

 

Here is Wednesday's events rundown in IST:

Indians to watch out for on Wednesday: 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team: Apurvi Chandela and Deepak Kumar, Anjum Moudgl and  Ravi Kumar  50m Rifle 3 positions 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team:  Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary, Heena Sidhu and Abhishek Verma

 

India ended the ISSF World Cup 2019 in New Delhi with three gold medals, three world records and one Olympic quota. Apurvi Chandelia won the 10m air rifle gold on the opening day.

GOLD FOR INDIA: Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker win the gold medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team final!  India finishes wth a score of 483.4 for a comfortable 5.7 victory margin over China's Ranxin Jiang and Bowen Zhang in the final.

• India in a shootoff for gold with China.

Here's how Indians performed in the elimination series:

 

• Elimination round begins: India scores 40.4 and holds on to the top spot.  India gets 41.6 and 40.5 in the next two sets of four shots each.

• India is inching closer to a gold medal at the 10m air pistol mixed team event! 

• The Indian pair takes the top spot at the end of the third series of 10 shots with a score of 302.3.

•  The Indian pair shoots a combined 103 in the second series, but Korea's Kim and Park match the effort to stay on top. India continues to be in the second spot. Elimination begins after the third series. One pair will get eliminated at the end of 34 shots followed by eliminations every four shots.

 

• India's Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary are second after the first series of 10 shots with a score of 99.1. South Korea's Minjung Kim and Daehun Park are on top with 100.4 in the 10m air pistol mixed team final.

 

• Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary retain the top spot in the qualification at the end of both the relays. The final of the 10m air pistol mixed team event will begin at 15:15 IST.

• Heena Sidhu salvages some pride with a brilliant 99 in the fourth series, but it is too late for the Indian pair as Abhishek comes up with an effort of 95. Heena Sidhu and Abhishek Verma are placed ninth and will not qualify for the final. Only the top 5 pairs make the cut.

• A poor run from Heena in the third series. She manages only 94 while Abhishek secures 97. The pair is unlikely to make the cut for the final. 

• Abhishek Verma has a good run in the second series. He scores 99/100. Heena improves upon her first series score by one for a 96 to give the team a combined total of 385.

• Heena and Abhishek shoot 95 each in the first series for a combined score of 190 in the second relay of 10m air pistol mixed team qualification.

• Heena Sidhu and Abhishek Verma will compete in the relay 2 of 10m air pistol mixed team qualification shortly.  With Manu and Saurabh finishing on top with a world record score in relay 1, India is assured of at least one pair in the final (unless you have five pairs in the second relay rewriting records!)

• WORLD RECORD: Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary equal the world record score of 778 in the 10m air pistol mixed team qualification!

 

• WORLD RECORD: China's Ruozhu Zhao and Yukun Liu win gold with a world record score of 503.6 in the 10m air rifle mixed team event at the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi. Romania's Laura-Georgeta Coman and Alin George Moldoveanu take the silver with a score of 496.2. 

• The Indians regain their position at the top of the charts after Manu and Saurabh score an identical 98 in their third series. They have so far scored 584/600 .

• The Indian pair goes a little off target in the second series. A 95 from Manu Bhaker and a 97 from Saurabh give India a combined total of 388 to slip to second place in the qualification rankings.  A top five spot will help them qualify for the final.

• Saurabh Chaudhary continues to impress. He registers 100/100 in his first series of 10 shots. Manu Bhaker finishes with 96 for a combined score of 196. Three more series of shots remain in the relay 1 of the 10m air pistol mixed team event.  They are on top of the charts at the end of the first series.

•  The youngsters Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker are out competing in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. Saurabh Chaudhary has been in great form in the 10m air pistol event. He created World Record  and secured an Olympic quota place in the individual competition on Sunday. Manu Bhaker, however, has struggled in New Delhi. She made it to the 25m pistol final and finished fifth, but couldn't qualify for the final in her pet event - the 10m air pistol.  Will they come up trumps in the mixed team event to add to India's medal count?

• Anjum Moudgil and Ravi Kumar finish their relay 2 qualification with a score of 836.3 and finish at 7th place. Only the top 5 qualify for the final, so that brings an end to India's campaign in the 10m air rifle mixed team event.  This is how they performed:

Series 1: Anjum - 105.0, Ravi -103.4

Series 2: A - 105.2, R - 104.1

Series 3: A - 104.8, R - 105.2

Series 4: A - 104.2, R - 104.3

Total: 836.3

• The Indian pair is well and truly in contention for a spot in the final. They have shot 210 in the third series. Anjum 104.8,  Ravi  105.2

• The Indian pair do marginally better in the second series with a score of 209.3. Mougil gets 105.2 and Ravi fires 104.1.

• Anjum Moudgil gets 105.0 and Ravi Kumar 103.4 in the first series for a combined score of 208.4.  

• Anjum Moudgil and Ravi Kumar will be the Indian interest in relay 2 that gets underway at 10.25am

• China's Ruozhu Zhao and Yukun Liu are on top with a score of 841.1 at the end of relay 1.

• A score of 831.0 is not enough for the Indian pair of Apurvi Chandela and Deepak Kumar to stay in contention for a place in the final. They are in the 13th position at the end of Relay 1.

• Here's how the Indian pair of Apurvi Chandela and Deepak Kumar fared in the relay 1 of 10m air rifle mixed team qualification:

Series 1 : Apurvi - 102.7, Deepak - 104.1

Series 2: A - 104.6, D - 104.3

Series 3: A - 105.6, D - 102.8

Series 4: A - 102.8, D - 104.1

• The 10m air rifle mixed team qualification round will see the Indian team fire a combined 80 shots ( 40 each) divided into four series. The current world record in the qualification is 843.4

• India's golden arm Apurvi Chandela is aiming for a second medal in partnership with Deepak Kumar in the 10m air rifle mixed team event. She is in the Relay 1. The second Indian team comprising Anjum Moudgil and Ravi Kumar will be competing later in the day in relay 2 of qualification.

• This is the final day of competitions at the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi. There are two mixed team medal events but no Olympic quotas are on offer. Apart from the quotas handed out at the World Championships last year, the mixed team events for Tokyo Olympics will be formed from the contingent competing in the individual events at the Games in 2020.

HIGHLIGHTS, DAY 4: The reigning Olympic champion Christian Reitz of Germany beat the reigning World Champion Lin Junmin of China 35-31 in a spectacular final of men’s 25-metre rapid fire pistol in the ISSF World Cup, at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Tuesday. Veronika Major of Hungary added the air pistol gold to her sports pistol gold, but silver medallist Chia Ying Wu of Chinese Taipei had the consolation of winning the Olympic quota. Kim Bomi of Korea beat compatriot Kim Minjung for the bronze, but the latter grabbed the Olympic quota as Bomi had won it earlier. (DAY 4 REPORT)

Where to watch? There will be live television coverage of the World Cup (only the finals) by Sony and Doordarshan , which should provide the right impetus for the Indian shooters to show case their world beating skills.
