Nation selection trials: Olympian Kynan Chenai asserts dominance

The reigning national champion, Olympian Kynan Chenai, continued to assert his stronghold over men’s trap as he topped the first selection trials with a commanding performance.

Kynan, who qualified with 121 out of 125, won the final 45-42 against Prithviraj Tondaiman.

Asian Games silver medallist Lakshay Sheoran came third, ahead of Zoravar Singh Sandhu, Aman Ali Elahi and Bhowneesh Mendiratta.

Former World Champion Manavjit Singh Sandhu shot 109 and was placed 18th. Birendeep Sodhi missed the final after being tied for the last spot on 113 with Bhowneesh.

In women’s trap, Olympian Shagun Chowdhary clinched the top honour, as she prevailed over Rajeshwari Kumari 45-40. Qualification topper, Seem Tomar (109), came third, ahead of the reigning national champion Varsha Varman, Nivetha Nenthirasigamani and Kirti Gupta.
