Black Ball Open: Joshna Chinappa bows out in quarterfinals

India’s Joshna Chinappa goes down to Joelle King, the World No. 5, to end a memorable run.

Joshna Chinappa bowed out of the Women’s Black Ball Squash Open as she went down fighting against New Zealand’s Joelle King, the World No. 5, in the quarterfinals of the PSA gold event here.

King, seeded third, won 7-11, 12-10, 2-11, 11-5, 11-8 to become the only non player not from Egypt to enter the semifinals on Wednesday.

It was a tight contest, with Joshna leading 2-1 at one stage. But as King admitted later, she had to dig deep into her reserves to make it difficult for Joshna, and as the contest wore on, Joshna lost her earlier grip on the contest.

Earlier in the tourney, Joshna had defeated Nicol David, the Malaysian legend, and Sarah-Jane Perry, the sixth seed, in what was a memorable run.
