India’s chess wizard P. Harikrishna will get married to former chess player Nadezda Stojanovic of Serbia, on March 3 here.
“It all started when we were playing in the world age group tournaments in 1998. After some time, she stopped playing the sport in 2002. And, when she started accompanying her younger sister and GM Andjelija on the circuit, our bond of friendship became stronger,” Harikrishna told Sportstar on Tuesday at his residence.
Harikrishna, the former World Junior champion, has been living in Hyderabad for a long time. He said his chess career would be uninterrupted after marriage, and that he will be based out of Prague in view of his commitments to the European Leagues and also for training purposes.
No chess for partner
Unlike him, however, his partner will not pursue a career in chess.
“Nadezda finished her graduation in Economics from the Belgrade University and has no plans of pursuing chess career as of now,” the 31-year-old Hari said.
Harikrishna revealed he will represent India in a chess Olympiad alongside the likes of Viswanathan Anand, Vidit Gujarathi, and Krishnan Sasikiran, and that it would be one of his biggest events scheduled this year. “Yes, winning a medal in that prestigious event is one of the biggest targets now for me,” he said.
