Asian Indoor Games: Sumit Nagal through to semis

In the semifinals, Sumit will face the Uzbek Davis Cupper Farrukh Dustov.

Sumit Nagal defeated Chun Hun Wong in the semifinals.

Second seed Sumit Nagal had to fight his way past seventh seed Chun Hun Wong of Hong Kong in the men’s quarterfinals of tennis in the Asian Indoor Games in Turkmenistan on Friday. In the semifinals, Sumit will face the Uzbek Davis Cupper Farrukh Dustov. In the top half of the draw, Vijay Sundar Prashanth will play his quarterfinals against Timur Khabibulin of Kazakhstan later.

In the women’s quarterfinals, the India's hopes of medals from top seed Ankita Raina and national champion Riya Bhatia were dashed as both

lost without winning a set. Ankita was tamed by seventh seed Beatrice Gumulya of Indonesia, while fourth seed Riya was stopped by fifth seed
Patcharin Cheapchandej of Thailand.

In the mixed doubles, top seeds Vishnu Vardhan and Prarthana Thombare made the semifinals by beating a Filipino pair in three tough sets. The duo, which had a bye in the first round, will play third seeds Sanjar Fayziev and Arina Folts of Uzbekistan. The results (quarterfinals): Men: Sumit Nagal bt Chun Hun Wong (Hkg) 7-6(4), 7-6(4). 

Women: Beatrice Gumulya (Ina) bt Ankita Raina 6-3, 6-4; Patcharin Cheapchandej (Tha) bt Riya Bhatia 6-4, 6-4. Mixed doubles: Vishnu Vardhan & Prarthana Thombare bt Jeson Patrombon & Khim Iglupas (Phi) 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
