Tomas Berdych withdraws from US Open with appendicitis

The Wimbledon semifinalist announced on Twitter that he will have be in Europe for 'additional checks and treatment'.

Tomas Berdych, the ATP World No. 8, has withdrawn from the upcoming US Open citing appendicitis.

The Wimbledon semifinalist announced on Twitter that he will have be in Europe for 'additional checks and treatment'. The US Open, the final Grand Slam of the year, is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 29 in New York.

Berdych bowed out of the ongoing Cincinnati Masters with a 6-3, 7-6 loss to Marcel Granollers.

"I was just diagnosed with appendicitis in Cincinnati so I will be flying back to Europe for additional checks and treatment. I will need to take some time off to recover fully but I know that I will get back as strong as ever," he wrote on Twitter .
