Berlin Archery World Cup: Indian compound teams crash out in quarterfinals

Both the Indian men's and women's compound teams crashed out in the quarterfinals of the Berlin World Cup as they lost to Germany and Turkey, respectively, on Thursday.

The men's team, which included Abhishek Verma, Aman Saini and Rajat Chauhan, shot 230 to lose the contest to their German counterparts by three points. Muskan Kirar, Swati Dudhwal and Jyothi Surekha Vennam on the other hand lost by a margin of seven points as the final score read 229-222.

Abhishek Verma was the only compound archer who made it to the fourth round in the individual event but ultimately lost to Turkey's Suleyman Araz 148-142 after beating Russia's Alexander Dambaev 142-139.

Among the women, no one could clear the second round.

In men's recurve, India's charge ended in the third round after both Atul Verma and Pravin Ramesh Jadhav lost their respective matches.

Deepika Kumari, who had beat Elodie Kaczmareck in the third round, succumbed to a 6-0 loss to Chinese Taipei's Tan Ya-Ting.

In the recurve team events, the men's team of Atul Verma, Pravin Ramesh Jadhav and Atanu Das crashed out in the first round to Canada with the scoreboard reading 5-1. The women's team of Bombayla Devi Laishram, Madhu Vedwan and Deepika Kumari too put up a dismal performance as they lost to Italy 6-0 in the quarterfinal.
