It was a battle royal in both men’s and women’s singles finals. And, H.S. Prannoy and Saina Nehwal defied all odds to script fantastic wins and clinch the titles defeating World No. 2s K. Srikanth and P.V. Sindhu respectively in the 82nd Senior National badminton championship at the Divisional Sports Complex here on Wednesday.

In the women's singles final, a very aggressive Saina got the better of Olympics and World championship silver medallist Sindhu in style. If the body language was any hint of things to come, then Sindhu’s tense face in the face of a series of brilliant smashes and drops from her famed opponent said it all.
What was impressive about Saina was that she recovered from the few unforced errors without conceding too many easy points. This actually compounded Sindhu's misery as her best efforts to come back were nullified by the all-round mastery of the London Olympics bronze medallist, who was particularly better at the net tonight.
For international Ashwini Ponnappa it was a memorable outing – winning a ‘double’ - clinching the mixed doubles partnering R. Satwik Sai Raj and the women’s doubles title with N. Sikki Reddy.
