After being cancelled last season due to the pandemic, the Ranji Trophy will be played in a three-month window from November 16 to February 19, 2022, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Saturday.
After holding a curtailed season, the BCCI will now conduct most of its domestic tournaments across age-groups with the season commencing on September 21 with the Senior Women's One Day League. It will be followed by the Senior Women's One Day Challenger Trophy, which will take place from October 27.

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will kickstart on October 20, 2021 with the final to be played on November 12, 2021.
The Vijay Hazare Trophy will take place from February 23, 2022 to March 26, 2022.
A total of 2127 domestic games will be played this season across various age groups in the men’s & women’s category.
"The BCCI is confident of hosting the domestic season with health and safety of players and all people involved being paramount," the BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement.
The format
The Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy will have 38 teams being divided in four groups (nine each in Group A and B and 10 each in C and D). The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will see the teams being divided in five groups, with three of eight teams each and two with seven.
Even as the schedule will help scores of cricketers and officials involved in domestic season heave a sigh of relief, all stakeholders are desperately waiting for the announcement of the compensation package committed by the BCCI in the wake of the curtailed season.
No Irani Cup, Duleep Trophy
Even though the BCCI plans to conduct most of its premier tournaments, the Irani Cup, Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy have been scrapped. In its meeting on April 16, the BCCI apex council had decided that the three tournaments will not be held keeping the COVID-19 in mind.
