Suranga Lakmal (L) used the overcast conditions to devastating effect by dismissing KL Rahul with a swerving delivery in the very first ball of the Test. His first day's spell read 6-6-0-3!

Rangana Herath produced a crucial 67 at No. 9 which helped Sri Lanka gain a first innings lead of 122. In a stop-start Test, the veteran off-spinner's defiance might well have proved to be the difference at the end to deny India victory.

KL Rahul (R) and Shikhar Dhawan (L) put on a 166-run parternship to erase the first innings deficit at the end of play on Day-4. Shikhar fell short of a well deserved century at 94.

With wickets tumbling around him, India skipper Virat Kohli blasted his way to his 18th Test and 50th international century to put the game beyond Sri Lanks's reach.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar's four-fer gave India a sniffing chance of stealing a win on the last day of the Test. Sri Lanka was reeling at 75/7 when bad light stopped play to help the visitor eke out a draw.
