World Cup 2019 semifinals qualification scenario: Pakistan takes on Bangladesh with semifinal hopes all but over

Australia, England and India have qualified for the World Cup 2019 semifinal while New Zealand, by virtue of its high Net Run Rate, is assured of a last-four finish. Pakistan's campaign in the tournament is likely to end against Bangladesh.

Pakistan, despite winning against Bangladesh, is likely to crash out of World Cup 2019.

England thrashed New Zealand by 119 runs to qualify for the World Cup semifinals for the first time since 1992. New Zealand, however, by virtue of its high Net Run Rate is assured of qualification which means Pakistan is all but out of contention.

Australia, India and England have made it to the last four with New Zealand too on the cusp of breaking into the semis.

Afghanistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Bangladesh are now officially out of the semifinal race.

 

Here are semifinal qualifying scenarios       

New Zealand

Points: 11 from 9 matches

New Zealand, by virtue of its high NRR, will qualify. Pakistan's chances — even if it beats Bangladesh in its last fixture — look bleak.

Pakistan

Points: 9 from 8 matches

Remaining matches: (Bangladesh)

Pakistan has 9 points from 8 matches after the three-wicket win over Afghanistan. If it wins its final league match against Bangladesh, it will end on 11 points -- the same as New Zealand but its negative NRR makes its chances of qualifying next to impossible.

The four semifinalists will be decided on the basis of points. If teams are tied in the standings, the number of wins, net run rate and the head-to-head record will come into play in that order.
