Jasprit Bumrah showed again, on Sunday, why he's the No. 1-ranked ODI bowler with a bowling effort that helped India restrict England to 337 for seven batting first.
Against a comprehensive England batting line-up, bolstered by Jason Roy's return from a left hamstring injury, the Indian bowlers were likely to be put to the test. The bowlers have underpinned India's unbeaten run in the World Cup so far, though they hadn't come against a batting line-up that had the personnel or the style to attack them from the outset.
On a difficult day for the Indian bowlers, Bumrah shone, taking one for 44 and keeping the English batsmen in check right through his spell.
The Edgbaston pitch offered minimal assistance and the onus was on the Indian bowlers to identify the right length for the surface. Bumrah bowled back of a length in his first and second spell, but when Ben Stokes began to cut loose in the final powerplay, the right-arm pacer was able to hit the blockhole consistently and stymie the English batsmen.
Bumrah removed Stokes with a blockhole delivery that the England all-rounder tried to scoop fine for four. He couldn't get the timing on his shot because of the angle and pace generated by Bumrah and was caught by Ravindra Jadeja at fine leg.
