Chris Gayle's final World Cup appearance ended on a disappointing note after the charismatic southpaw was caught behind for 7 against Afghanistan in a World Cup 2019 match on Thursday.
Gayle was 18 shy of breaking Brian Lara's record of highest run-scorer for the West Indies in One-Day International cricket.
Lara and Gayle are the only two West Indian batsmen to cross the 10,000-mark in ODIs. Gayle, who had earlier hinted at retiring from international cricket once the World Cup concludes, sprang a surprise when he announced his plans to hang up his boots after the home series against India in August.
India’s tour of the Caribbean islands during August and September will feature three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests.
