For all the criticisms of throwing his wicket away, Rohit Sharma is difficult to catch once he settles into his innings. After M. S. Dhoni won the toss and chose to bat first on a flat deck at WACA on crisp Tuesday morning, Rohit Sharma responded with an unbeaten 171, peppered with 13 fours and seven sixes, carrying his team to 309 for four.

Second most number of 150-plus scores: After playing 144 ODIs, Rohit has four 150-plus scores -- only next to batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who has five such scores in 463 ODIs.

1000 runs against Australia: Rohit also became the third Indian after Sachin and M. S. Dhoni to go past 1000 runs against Australia. He got to the landmark in 19 innings.

Highest average against Australia: Rohit averages over 68 against them, which is the highest for any batsman with 1000-plus runs against the Australia. The list includes the likes of AB de Villiers, Clive Lloyd, and Vivian Richards.

Highest score against Australia in Australia: Carrying the bat at 171, Rohit also set the record for the highest score by a visiting batsman against Australia in their backyard.

Most centuries by an Indian Down Under: Rohit equalled V. V. S. Laxman's record for the most number of hundreds by an Indian in Australia (in ODIs). Apart from today's century, Rohit had scored 138 against Australia in Melbourne (January 2015) and 137 against Bangladesh in Melbourne (March 2015).
